Praising God in those times of difficulty is not easy. In fact it is almost impossible to utter the words ‘Bless the Lord’ when it seems He is far off and distant. Yet it is at these times that God can become more real than we have ever imagined or experienced. I remember a lady who was a local preacher and who was dying of cancer. I visited her one day and it was the most joyful time. She laughed, she sang, she quoted her favourite verses. She passed away not long after and I took her funeral. The service reflected her character and her strong belief that God was with her in all things and at all times.
